I'm Thinking About Botox… Here's What I'd Tell My Best Friend First

If one of my best friends asked me whether they should have Botox, I honestly wouldn't start by talking about wrinkles.

I'd ask them why they were thinking about it.

Was it because they'd started noticing a line that bothered them every time they looked in the mirror? Had they seen photos of themselves recently? Or were they simply curious after seeing friends having treatment?

I think that's important because Botox shouldn't be about looking like somebody else. It should simply help you look like a fresher version of yourself.

As an Independent Nurse Prescriber at Amethyst Clinic in Bingley, I see patients every week who are nervous about their first appointment. Most of them say exactly the same thing...

"I don't want to look frozen."

Neither do I.

In fact, if that's the look you're after, I'm probably not the right practitioner for you.

Botox should be subtle

The best Botox is the treatment nobody notices.

Friends might tell you that you look well rested, healthier or ask if you've been on holiday, but they shouldn't immediately know you've had treatment.

My aim is always to soften lines while keeping natural facial movement. You should still look like you—just a little more refreshed.

There isn't a "right age"

One question I'm asked all the time is...

"Am I too young?"

Or...

"Have I left it too late?"

The truth is there isn't a magic age to start Botox.

Some people begin treatment in their late twenties because they have naturally strong facial muscles. Others don't consider it until their forties or fifties.

I always treat the person in front of me, not their age.

Botox isn't permanent

Another thing I'd tell my best friend is not to worry about "what happens if I don't keep it up?"

Botox gradually wears off over around three to four months.

If you decide not to have another treatment, your muscles simply regain their normal movement and your skin returns to how it would naturally have looked. It doesn't make wrinkles worse.

Less is often more

One of the biggest misconceptions about Botox is that more product equals better results.

Actually, the opposite is often true.

A carefully planned treatment that respects your facial anatomy usually gives the most natural, long-lasting outcome.

This is why every consultation at Amethyst Clinic is tailored to the individual. No two faces are the same, so no two treatment plans should be either.

Choosing the right practitioner matters

Botox is a prescription-only medicine in the UK.

That means your consultation should include a full medical assessment, discussion about your goals and whether treatment is actually appropriate for you.

As a Nurse Prescriber, I'm able to assess, prescribe and administer treatment myself, ensuring every patient receives personalised care from start to finish.

My advice?

Don't choose your practitioner based on price alone.

Choose someone whose results you genuinely admire.

Look through their before and after photographs. Read their reviews. Make sure they take time to understand what you're hoping to achieve, rather than simply selling treatment.

The relationship you have with your practitioner is just as important as the treatment itself.

Thinking about Botox in Bingley?

If you've been considering Botox but aren't quite sure whether it's right for you, that's completely normal.

A consultation doesn't commit you to treatment.

Sometimes patients decide to go ahead, sometimes they don't and that's absolutely fine.

My role is simply to give honest advice, explain your options and help you make the decision that's right for you.

After all, confidence isn't about looking different.

It's about feeling comfortable in your own skin.
